Microsoft has two independent teams, Tax and Internal Audit Services, that each play an important role in promoting improvement and cutting costs across our global operation.

Microsoft Tax professionals work closely with our internal customers, including Operations, Legal & Corporate Affairs, Finance, and Treasury, to reduce tax costs while fully complying with applicable tax laws. This work addresses the entire tax process, from drafting tax legislation and regulations, assisting in the structure of our worldwide business operations and acquisitions, and ensuring tax compliance and reporting, all the way through to managing tax audits and legal controversy.

Internal Audit Services (IAS) conducts a broad and comprehensive program of internal auditing across all aspects of Microsoft's global business. IAS adds value to Microsoft by evaluating whether existing business systems, processes, and practices cost-effectively achieve management's business, risk management, and control strategies and objectives. IAS partners with business management throughout Microsoft, promoting process improvement and innovative use of emerging technologies while ensuring that our complex organization is under control.
